I am suffering fro stripped threads on a few wheel studs, does anyone know a good supplier?
-
Hi Extreme, Alarmingly I bust 3 studs off from one of my rear wheels a few months ago & found the following:
- Lighthouse sell them for about £1 each but these were only listed for TJ's upto September 99! They weren't willing to sell them to me as mine was built after this- which applies to you to!
- Thus I had to get mine from dealership for a staggering £10+ each
(Worringly the dealer reckoned they sell quite a lot)
I can't belive there to be any differences between studs on pre & post Sept 99 so given time I'd have probably just got the lighhouse ones & tried them for the sake of a couple of quid but as the TJ was stuck in the garage I had to work fast.
Let me know how you get on as I'm concerned some more may bost!

Try speaking to Chris Bashall at Surrey Off-Road (01483 200046). He uses longer studs that can be machined down to the required length. He may be able to supply them, or put you in touch with his supplier.

Post 99 are longer

When I wanted some longer studs for my 10mm spacers I got them from lighthouse and just asked for longer ones.... at worst, buy some 98 nuts to go with them :)
-
£1.00 a nut or £10.00 a nut,,,,,Hmmmmm let me see. Is lighthouse open on a Saturday?
-
If you get stuck I think I have 10 of them.
-
How easy are they to change? Front looks straight forward, how about the rear?
-
Dead easy on mine, used a ball joint splitter (Only thing I had to hand) to push them out. Take the wheel off, then the brakes, and the disc, then just press them out the back... Don't be tempted to bash them out or you'll F the threads and the bearing as well most likely. one side is easier to get them out than the other, can't remember whether it was the front or the rear of the hub, try it an see....
At worst, you pop the hub off and press them out that way, but you really shouldn't need to......
Must get back out of tech now... Greggmo will get worries that I know something about Jeeps :)

Quoted £98.94 for studs and nuts from Lighthouse and £157.00 from Jeep for studs alone.
-
And the Nuts ar £7 each at Jeep.... that's £140 for a full set !!!!!
-
The nuts they would give me for free because when they PDI all the new jeeps they keep the spare nuts that they replace with the lock nuts, so thats a bargain,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,FOC

your all NUTS
sorry but some1 had to say it.
