Just had the garage on the phone, they can't fit the read locker as once they get it in the housing, it won't allow the shaft to turn...
Any ideas????
-
Which shaft do you mean? If you mean they can't get the ring gear to mesh with the pinion gear properly ( I assume they know they have to shim the diff for backlash and preload) then It could be the wrong diff for the gears you have. They come with different ring gear offsets for different ranges of ratios.

They fitted new 4.10 R&P as well :(
They had the full fitting kit and instructions and are now telling me it's the wrong one for the axle... which I think is wrong... They put the OX locker in the front fine, so I hope that that know what they are doing.
Just spoke to the garage, and he said that as he tried to put the new locker in with the R&P it was binding with the pinion and would not go into the diff, he fitted the R&P to the factory LSD and that fitted in no issue, he tried removing shims etc and it was still binding against the R&P and would not go into the diff housing. They have currently got the LSD back in there and it's back on the road, but he's scratching his head with the Detroit as it doesn't seem to fit in the hole with the R&P.

AAH isn't it fun. :(
BALLS to 'it's a Jeep thing'.

No, not fun, he started talking about all the preload and shit, so it sounds like he knew what he was doing, but he said that without having done one before, he is worried that it would break something to force it in. They're just waiting for the Friction modifier for the LSD before I can have hte Jeep back at the moment.

Its possible you may have been supplied with a 'thick' gearset. Theyre more commonly available now and allow you to use your std carrier instead of having to buy the alternate size.
Assuming that your circumstances require a different size carrier and the trutrac has been supplied as such then a 'thick' gearset will not fit it.
A 'thick' gearset will, however, fit on your existing carrier as it was designed to do.
Just a thought

And he's the man that knows.

Would that be a 44410T from 4wd ????

Would that be a 44410T from 4wd ????
Its not at all clear but as item 44410 is a 4.11 set for a TJ 44 as well it looks likely that the 44410T might be a 'thick' set
Is this the set you have ? Which locker are you trying to use ?

18716C on 4wd

Well thats obviously the right one from the description. BTW If it was the wrong one for the ratio the ring gear would be clear on the pinion not binding.
Wrong gearset gets my vote

I can see my 4wd thread getting a new entry soon
