I've heard it can be done by just dropping the sump.......

it should be relatively easy if its the case.....

Trouble is if the crank seal has gone you can almost guarantee that the cam shaft one is not far behind and if I remeber correctly on the crank there are two seals involved, there is an 'O' ring  that has to slip over the end of the crank so just taking the sump off may not be enough.

ahh, RTFM, section 2C-10, what a wierd seal arrangement that is, no wonder they fail
can you take the gearbox/flywheel inspection cover off without taking off the starter motor?? (on an auto)

When you do the job, thats if you do it the sump of way.
It's a messy job, take the sump of the night before & let it drip oil all night long, put summat on the ground though
