Title: AIR CON 98 Grand Orvis

can anyone please advise. I had the air con system recharged about 9 weeks ago, i was told there may be a small leak, it could take weeks or months to loose pressure, anyway cold air has stopped blowing and it only seems to blow warm air at coldest setting. so i bought a recharge kit thinking that it would need a top up. When i connected the gauge (came with the kit)  the needle went into the red which indicated about 75psi (showing overpressure) It sounds like the system has shut down as i cannot hear the compressor. Not sure what to do or to check. can anyone advise what to check for   or reccomend anyone in the Cumbria area

Looks like the system has shut down due to high pressure, can anyone advise what may cause high pressure, there are no fault codes showing on my air con

The system will shut down if the system pressure is too low or too high. You need to get it checked by an A/C specialist really. Go back to the people who regassed it. Presumably they will have added leak detecion dye to the charge, so they will be able to find a leak now if it is present. The usual culprit on ZGs is the evaporator. (nasty expensive dash out job)It's not really possible for the system to have gained pressure since it was charged (except for the causes of temperature change) and proper pressure checks can only be made with the correct equipment once the system is running.

Thanks Mike  ...is there anywhere in the cumbria/lancashire area that could advise, as the people that re-gassed it will only regass & dont do the clanky stuff on cars

They should have identified the leak and fixed it. It is illegal to charge a refrigeration system with gas that has a known leak in it.

The pressure switch should re-set when the pressure drops, the high pressure switch works on the discharge side of the compressor and possibly in conjunction with the condensor fan (on front rad), is the fan running when the a/c is on? Could be a problem with the fan or sensor.

Did the a/c work for long after it was re-charged? If it never did then it may have been overcharged, i.e. to much gas put in.

When you connected the gauge did you do it with engine running and air con set to max cool

Yes ... I had the engine running warm and air con set to low with all the doors open ...the gauge reads approx 75psi, but the high pressure sensor has tripped and the compressor wont work. Im tempted to release some gas to see if the compressor will kick in
