Not that technical really but, where have people mounted their CBs in an XJ - specifically facelift models.
I've seen a few from searching the 'net but would like suggestions from anyone here.
I should probably also say it's a small Team MC-8 and I'm pretty fussy about making sure things fit 'right' - no suggestions of bungee-cord fixings please!
Thanks, James.

I've got mine under the dash to the RHS of the steering wheel, with the mic. clip by the air vent above.
Makes running the ariel lead easy, under the plastic trim along the sill, through the boot and up the rear pillar to pop out through the tailgate and into the rain channel.

Hi James
Been having the same dilemma with my TJ. Chris at SOR suggested mounting it behind the centre console (flat against it), as it keeps everything to hand, but it's not an obvious place, and it would be largely out of sight.
The same position might work on your XJ - although you have an ash tray there, and I don't - as long as you're not likely to be changing channels on a regular basis.

Mine is fitted on the right hand side of the center console (next to your left leg) with the speaker built in and facing out. Its fixed by seriously sticky Velcro (available on flea bay) and is easy to use/change channel and can be fidled with on the move......
Cables goes round back of pedals (NO IT WONT CATCH) and up to front right hand corner of roof.

Here is the TJ one.

Thanks for the ideas.
With the big overhead console in facelift XJs mounting above would require some creative fab work and loss of the storage up there - glasses and PDA for me.
I had considered fabricating a new facia to integrate the CB and CD player into the space left by the factory one. It would take some time that I don't have at the moment but I may explore this later.
I think I'm leaning towards fixing on the transmission tunnel by my left leg. I'll just have to see if it gets in the way with time. This also seems to be a good place as the speaker is open and not hindered by dash etc.
Any more ideas appreciated but I know there's limited options for space in a XJ
Thanks, James

Hi James,
When I had an auto 4.0 XJ I mounted the CB tight between the drivers seat and the centre console (and cheated - spliced the wires from the elecy seat to provide a power supply). Nice and out of the way, no chance of catching your leg and pretty much out of sight re light fingered oiks. Speaker was pretty good too, so no problems in use.
Worth a thought?

Mines by my left leg, fixed to the center console, never gets in the way and mine is a manual.

I had a look around Trish's XJ for likely locations today, and came up with the same idea as Psychoman - seems ideal to me.

I wedged mine between the passenger seat and centre console for a while, but with the waterproof seat covers it just flew into the passenger footwell each time I used the brake. Now I've screwed it just in front of where the passengers knee would be, which has the added advantage of knee-capping them if they're not holding tight enough = cool
