Title: Oil pressure
Post by: keeko on August 03, 2006, 11:42:22 PM
What is regarded as good oil pressure in a Mk2 XJ? And can different oil give different readings on your gauge?

Title: Oil pressure
Post by: gray on August 04, 2006, 01:49:34 PM
Hi Guys
Just had my XJ mk1 serviced at MDG portsmouth, Mark put on a k&n oil filter over twice the size of the one on there and told me the this would
make o/pressure a lot better, the gauge reads 12 o`clock at tickover
when hot and a bit past 1 oclock when you start up from cold, when on the move it dont go below 1`oclock ever, Mark said the small o/filters restrict the flow, hope this helps.            Graham :D

Right, I`m spot on. 1 oclock nearly always, slightly less when tickover on traffic. Rises when accelerating.   :) Never anywhere near 10 though.

My 93 XJ with 136K on the clock ticks over at 12 o' clocke and rises to about 1-2 o'clock at a steady 55mph.

Drops a little below these when it has been running for about an hour. I'm not worried though. The fuel guage drops faster!!!

Just raided the Aladdin's cave at MDG and am now running a K&N high flow oil filter and Valvoline VR10W60 oil.  Tickover has gone up from 1.5 to 3 bar and at 3000rpm it sits at about 3.75-4 bar.

The 98 TJ has the same engine as the Mk2 XJ.

There's no substitute for a good oil and filter, much better than the Jeep recommended grades.

Woody. Don't spose you have a part number for the K&N oil filter, I'd like to fit one on my next service.

Got one on mine (96 4lt)

Looks the same for both 4 and 2.5 lt engines.

My oil pressure is at 1 O'clock, always
