Title: Battery
Post by: prozac on August 09, 2006, 06:01:07 PM
Where best? and what to pay?
I bought a partco one today but it is slightly too tall. :?
Is there anything wrong with getting one with a higher EN rating?

Cheers

The Cherry battery is a pretty odd shape, and not something many people carry in stock. Couple of months ago I got a Lucas one for 35 quid from 'Auto Jap Spares' in Tile Hill. Lifetime warranty and 25 quid off. Did have to take a hacksaw to the metal bracket on top though or it would have grounded the new +ve.

Might be worth trying a few Dealerships.  When we replaced one a while back, all the battery places said that I'd have to go to a Dealership.  Turned out to be around £60, which was a lot better than I expected.

Prozac

I used a battery that was too tall on my XJ I used some nylon webbing to strap in place, has passed an MOT like that :D   Go for the cheap one and scrapheap up a restaint mechanism.

The XJ is not an offroader anymore, the webbing I use is as good as the shock tested straps used for holding the batteries that start emergency diesel fire pumps on warships :D

By "too tall" I meant it fouled the bonnet closing. I had to cable tie the metal restraint shut then found I couldn't close the bonnet :?
