Not sure on a YJ, but done the same trick on various motors - and yup - as long as you have an engine hoist with enough lift, tke everything out as one. As I said, tho - not sure on YJs,    may be something tricky - calling Dr Mike?!?

thanks for that ,
i have taken the whole front off the yj grill rad etc etc ,so just a gaping hole, looking back at me .looks like open heart surgery is about to take place .
so engine should just pull forward and out .
should being the operative word .

Hi Marc , yes it gonna be best to take the whole lot out in one go ! the only prob is with lifted jeeps it tough to get enough lift on the engine hoist. i would consider removing the transfer case before hand as it will hit every where as you lift it      good luck  catch up at c/f  :D

Don't forget to order yourself a new pilot bearing.

Yeah, if he's getting one from a 4.0 XJ it won't have one cos it'll be an automatic. (I'm assuming the YJ is manual)

I bought an OEM clutch kit from Lighthouse for the CJ. It didn't work out much more expensive than 4WD.

But if it comes wrong, loads of potential hassle.

True, but that can be said for any part ordered from the US.

any one know if parts should be soaked in oil or any thing ,while things like gearbox -bellhousing etc is left standing?flywheel etc?found tiny spots of rust begining to apear,on fly wheel ,was left in a damp place the other night though some rain got in through the garage roof :( also might sound a bit stupid .but i aint never took  out an engine before,so its all new to me,noticed that on my 2000 xj auto,no distributer,or the usual ht leads .just, little plastik looking pakages  :? whats all that about then ,again never owned an auto so its all new to me, :?
