Title: Baja Claw tyres and Body Armour??

Hi peeps,

My wifes wants new tyres on her stock 99 TJ. We're looking at MT Baja Claw tyres in a 31x10.5x15 size, im told this will fit a stock TJ is that right??
Plus has anyone got anything to say about the amount of road noise with these tyres??

Plus can anyone recommend a place to buy the Black Body Armour from???

31s will fit ok you might have to adjust the steering stops with some washers to prevent any rubbing..

As for road noise, there will be more but just an excuse to turn the music up.. :D

For me Body armour would be 4wd or Qtech...

Someone else will have more ideas than me though.. :D

Yeah I dont mind the road noise myself but im not allowed to drive it anymore!! :lol:

Lots of noise!! As I remember they wear rather quickly, and they were bias ply as I remember? My neighbor had some a couple years back, I'm sure someone on here can give you some more current info.

If it were me I'd go with a good set of muds like some swampers.

I'm running Recip Trekkers on an XJ which are Baja Claw copies but only £55 for 31/1050/15.  I can't fault the handling considering how agressive the tread is but they are very noisy on the road.  Mind you off road they're fidos danglies so who cares?

running bfg 33,s on yj and bfg,s o tj 31,s done millions of miles on both ,
handle fine ,road noise fine ,is it just an agressive look that you want for the tj or ,serious off road?cause i know they look really good and thats all the reason you need  8)

The main reason for that choice of tyre is just for looks. Those are nice though Mmore, ill look on there site.

Im possible going to do a 2" body lift at some stage but she doesnt want TOO big a wheels/tyres.

Wrangler MTRs are the nicest mud terrain tyre on the road IMHO...

I'd reccomend MTRs for your purpose. A good looking M/T which is quiet on tarmac and does the business in the squidgy stuff. Not the ultimate offroad tyre but a good comprimise IMO.

Yes you can run 31x10.5's on a stocker TJ.  I did it on mine for awhile with stock Canyon rims.  No rubbing whatsoever.  Personally I don't think the MTR's do well in the mud we have here.  Rocks and trails they do well though.  Same with the Baja Claws from what I've seen.  

I recently got a set of the Cooper STT's (35x12.5's) and really like them!  They've done well in mud, rock, and certainly not too loud on the road either.

X3 for MTR's, I love my 33's. They wear like iron and aren't to loud.

Shop around, just got 5 285/75/16 MT/Rs (for my Defender) from Budget for £425 + dreaded.

Tire Savings (http://http://www.tiresavings.com) sells the
-Cooper Discovery STT (31x10.5x15) for $138 each
-Goodyear MT/R (same size) for $175 each
-BFG MT's (same size) for $135 each

The size really does matter (that's what she said :oops: ) on pricing as well.  My 35's were around $275 each but are only $211 for the MT/R's.  Cheaper?  Not really...it really depends on the size.

why not go for some at,s as you are only on road?
