Has anyone ever seen this??? The stuff on my finger and the rag came out of the filler neck, the other pic is the bottom of the overflow, is was about 3/4 of an inch deep!!
The last pics are of the antifreeze?? Can you still call it antifreeze?
My first thought was blown head gasket, but the color is not from oil, it looses no oil from the crank case and the antifreeze still smells like something that used to be antifreeze. How the hell did that much mud get in there?

You aint been puttin radweld in there av u . . .
-
Radweld? Looks more like "FillYourRadWithMudToStopALeak"
Na, thats a good condition rad with 40,000 miles on the clock. Nothing but water and antifreeze. Well and mud.

Strange . . . . . .

Only thing that comes to mind is its an open system with the overflow bottle. The cap just lightly snaps on and with the beating my wife gave her at kirton maybe a bunch of crap splashed in there and was sucked up the overflow tube?? The bottle was full of it, the hose that connects it was full and the neck was full of it. Anyone ever seen this??

new one on me............as you say the top must have been loose.

Could be cumultive, as I recall, your XJ was completely covered in 1/2" of mud after traversing Shep's bog at Ribbo.

Ya, I moved the alt up today, will be fitting a home brew snorkel tomorrow and now I've got a front locker installed now. I WILL MAKE IT THROUGH THAT MUD HOLE THIS TIME......

I'll chuck in my theory, probably wrong but a theory none the less. Hot things that go in water cool down quickly contracting and if your breather was under water, mud may have been sucked in with the contraction. Buying it?? Didn't think so.

its not oil sludge is it
. i would say its rad weld if its not oil.

Guess you weren't as far off as you you thought you were.
From the group that pretty much wrote the book on offroading XJ's.
