Title: XJ tyres
Post by: Anonymous on April 06, 2005, 05:40:29 PM
Evenin all,

1st question since joining.....

I wanna cut up the mud with my 93 Cherokee, what tyres do you guys recommend with standard suspension (no lift kit ......yet)??? Oh & I will be putting them on spare wheels (if I can find some) as my little jeep is my daily driver!!

Have family in the tyre trade so getting them isnt a prob....

Thanks in advance

Paul

235-75-15's
goodyear mt/r's are the quietist muds, i'd get a spare set of wheels and get some colway mt's for offroad use though. review on my site

Goodyear mt/r`s are definately a little better on road than BF Goodrich but they arent so good in the mud.Its a common misconception that the mt/r stands for mud terrain but its not,its maximum traction/reinforced.I run Goodyear MT/R`S and although they are good,i find them sometimes a little embarrasing crossing slightly muddy tracks as they tend to slide about a lot.If you want a good compromise then go for the BF Goodrich AT`S but if you want more offroad capability then go for BF Gooodrich MT`S or a similar type,ie colway. Hope this helps.:D  :D

MT/Rs are the only mudish offering in a jeep size, the real mud they do is the G90 (landrover size  then ya fooked

BTW did I hear the the mtr is being discontinued?

i use general Grabber M/T's, and so do a few other members in the club.Never had any problems with them, but not to sure if they will do your size.Look on E-Bay for a set of wheels.

I can't rate BFG M/T's 235 75 15's enough

They transformed the off roading abilities of my old Cherry and on road..no problem

Colways are 1/3 the price of BfG but softer compound and 'kin NOISY!!!

Big plus of the BFG's tho is they may last @40k miles
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on April 07, 2005, 09:09:09 AM
I've had 20k miles on colway muds with very little ware and 38k miles on colway at's with 50% ware, bloody good IMHO.
Anyway Stew I've seen you very nearly stuck on your BFG MT's where my XJ sailed through on colway AT's

At what point would you expect a set of 31/10.5/15 Goodyear Wrangler MT to become useless?

The CJ came with a set with about 6mm tread left.

when you get stuck    Depends on the surface your on, on wet mud I would say they were boarder line with 6mm

yup aggree

rule of thumb is 5mm and they are scrap for mud as there isnt enough tread left to clear, when you get down to 6mm the tread sucks up the mus instead of throwing it out.

nah it gets boreing pulling out landies after a while. thats the only reason the mudcruzr has a nato tow hitch on the back is to pull out landies with bald tyres
3 pre requisites of owning a landie

1. gotta be a boreing fart
2. gotta have a big beard
3. gotta have bald muds fitted

Sorry to hijack the thread from KD.

Given what you have said about my near scrap tyres, what do you recommend?

I don't/won't be going far enough, fast enough or often enough to worry about the 'on road' behaviour. Maybe some really aggresive remould MT's?

The CJ is purely a toy, which will get upgraded as/when things break.

Bubba, Can you please tell me more about 'Boggers'.
Title:
Post by: ponyracer1 on April 08, 2005, 08:33:19 PM
They'll last between 15 and 20 thousand miles, roar like a dragon at ALL speeds but will go ANYWHERE in any terrain. And they look like something out of a horror film.

I spotted the Scrambler the other day whilst browsing the V8 CJ's on ebay.com.

It got me thinking (and drooling) about importing my own.

I think that's a whole new subject for another time though! (maybe one day).
