You might have to have some prop shafts made if you use an XJ box, cos i think they're a bit longer.

I believe that Chris, at Surrey Off-Road http://http://www.surreyoff-road.com/, fitted an XJ autobox and 242 T/C to a manual YJ, so it may be possible for you to get full-time 4x4 too.
As Chris has said, the XJ auto box is longer, and I understand that the 242 T/C is fatter too. It might be worth talking Chris at SOR to see what is feasible for a TJ.

An XJ has the Aiain-Warner AW4 box, which is electronically controlled, so you need to have the transmission control module from the same vehicle, plus you have to make up the wiring harness and link it to the engine control module to make it work. That's in addition to the mounting and driveshaft issues.
Easier to try and get the whole lot from a '96-'02 auto TJ, as the 32RH 'box fitted to these is pureley hydraulic, so will bolt right in and work. Remember to plug the breather hole behind the torque converter and make a new breather on top of the housing before you fit it, though.

Sorry. Must be dementia, or an overdose of Hammerite fumes.
