Title: 1995 cherokee 4.0 ltr wont rev above 3000 rpm
Post by: saxon on September 25, 2006, 11:19:13 AM
Hi everyone, im new to jeep ownership and would like to ask a question about my "new" jeep. It has been fine until it started not wanting to rev past 3000 rpm. When it hits that mark it is like a rev limiter has cut in ! I have had the codes checked and it said a faulty tps, when changed tho it didnt help, then the cat was replaced in case of being blocked as it did rattle at idle. That didnt help either so now my mechanic is a bit stumped. I would be very grateful for some help, thanks .

I'm probably wrong, but it may be a 'limp mode' to prevent any further 'damage'.

The codes often throw up the tps without it actually being the tps, there are other sensors you could try and swap like oxygen upstream sensor, the best option is to borrow one and see if it works before laying out for a new one from the stealership.

:imwitstupid:

Try disconnecting the battery for about 60 seconds.  I think that should clear it.

If that don't work  another culprit for causing difficult to find problems is the crank position sensor.

Make sure the rear silencer isn't obstructed with a chunk of catalyst core.
