I noticed the exhaust on the XJ is getting close to needing swapping out. Rust, cracks, leaks, etc. So i'm looking to replace it. Much as i'd like a Borla system (wouldn't we all?), i doubt i can swing it right now.
What have people used for replacement exhausts? Good/bad experiences, recommendations?

I can strongly reccomend the one in my shed.

The stock stainless one is definitely long lasting. I'm still on the original on my '97, 115,000 miles.

My 93 xj stock exahust would still be on there and the original cat still is, I just wanted somthing louder. I plumped for a longlife stainless catback system. Choice of how loud I wanted it and best of all a lifetime warranty, so any problems an all I do is roll up there with recipt in hand an they'll fix it.
It's all handmade on site from lengths of pipe and then welded together on the car. It was a toss up between that an a Borla for me but the Borla was £300 plus delivery Plus fitting
, whereas the longlife was £350 all in.
Hope you find somthing you like.
Oh an you also get a choice of tail sections.

It's all good, the worst bit about getting the exhaust was leaving my baby at the mercy of what looked like right monkeys
Three whole hours, I was sectionable by the time I went to collect it.

My neighbour just got an exhaust for his 99 2.5 Diesel for £77.00 inc vat from a local supplier.
