Title: XJ Diesel Snorkel
Post by: barttheguinnessguy on October 02, 2006, 02:23:26 PM
Afternoon fellow Dastards :D
I’m considering fitting a snorkel to the XJ. It’s a 2.5 VM Diesel.

Don’t seem to be able to find a dedicated diesel one localy :(  , so the question is as follows, Will a 4.0 petrol one fit and if so, how much modding will I need to do? Has anyone done this, and if so, any tips?

You'll have a bitch of a time putting a Safari on a diesel - the airbox is on the other side, so you'll need a pipe from one side to the other, which will gather heat and make performance even worse - Safari's murder performance as it is, without yet more pipework.

There's the "Airflow" snorkel for a diesel. Probably have to import one from Australian where they're made. http://http://www.snorkels.com.au/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=11

Also, Surrey Off-road to a Rokraider snorkel for a diesel. Doesn't look as good as the others, but I guess it works. http://http://www.surreyoff-road.com

Thanks Tim.
Just been on their site and it looks like its cheaper by half to import one from them compared with uk suppliers
Might just do that.

Yep, saw that one, but its a bit of a treck to fetch it, and he wont post.

Snorkels.com.au will sell me one and post it for less than his reserve price, although $33 AU does seem very cheap for international postage......................................

Why not offer to arrange a courier to collect it? Probably cost you less than £15.  :)

Does seem very cheap, possibly worth confirming it.
I'd much rather have a new snorkel than a pre-abused one. Scratches are good, but only if you made them yourself - cus then you have the memories!

To be fair, it wasn't so bad for me, cus KD drilled the holes.
The niggling thought you have is whether you got paint on EVERY bit of bare metal.

FWIW SOR fitted one of theirs to Rubi 2? for Jeep UK
ARB breathers I think ran up the snorkel as well

Its the way I'd go...as an ex diesel Cherry owner who also drove said demo Cherry...
