Been looking at different GPS mapping software and this seems to be very common. The advantage of Oziexplorer is that you can scan your own maps in and use them, not reliant on the maps avail (Memory Map)
Plus the prog uses very low amount of system resources, ie cheap laptop or pda's can run it...

Used it, and must admit it became a pain...
Theory is excellent.... Trying to find a scanner that will bring in a decent size map is near impossible. Then you have to go and mark up known points on a map and the more you do, the more acurate it is. One of the tests I did was to take a photo of an OS map (one whole side) but taken from as close to above as I could get. this meant the map tapered in at the top (As it got further away from the camera) and it did work after I entered the points for roughly 9 points on the map, not 100% acurate, but near enough.
I ended up on Memory map (OS edition). Maps already there, Acurate and far easier to use on the PDA IMHO.
What you trying to do with it? (In car Nav, or just plotting courses to send waypoints / tracks to your GPS ?

Navigatiing abroad unless on the SatNav can be awkward and as you know Memory Map does'nt go that far. The software seems to get a lot of use in Europe and further afield, but i think you are right, the quality of you scan and calibration must be spot on.

Fair enough.... As an App, it's fiddly to get started, but once you get your head around it's way of doing things, it wasn't too bad to use. Bear in mind this was 2 - 3 years ago when I last looked at it, so later versions may be even better.
I take it you are running it on the Laptop then connecting to the PDA as the PDA software used to be VERY limited.

Running an Old Laptop in the truck with a small screen on the dash (well will be)....
The CE version really seemed to be a viewer type proggy, as you mention it is Limited.
Im gonna give it a whirl....But for the UK. Memory Map seems best.....Failing that, just good old Paper Os maps will suffice (always carry thm as back-up)
