Title: What welder do you run?
Post by: Warthog on October 29, 2006, 10:51:33 PM
Well i have been running a SIP130 MIG for awhile now. Plus an ARC welder for any heavy welds i have needed. But have decided to treat myself to a Butters MIG 211, EuroTorch and the abilty to run a proper bottle :smt023

Just wondering what you Birty's have lying around in your Fab Labs?

What is your prefered choice ARC, MIG or TIG (i like, cant afford...yet)

we have a couple of welders. a cheap little mig 130 for the odds and sods running a pub size bottle. there is also a super sexy inverter arc and it is by far the nicest welder ive ever used. i know a man who has a rather nice under hood welder but he wont sell it me, the giant smurf.

Got me Ferm 210 turbo arc in the truck, but would prefer a nice small mig.
Frog, Butters is nice kit - I'm jealous!

I run a 220 amp murex mig, works a treat from 1 mil to 10 mil. Doesn't really matter the brand, buy the biggest amp welder you can with the dial controls, NOT the cheap ones with 4 setings and the click type knobs. Migs can always be turned down for thin work.

SIP 180 amp ARC. I'm the master of Gorilla welds - Big and ugly but STRONG.

I'd go for a 200+ amp MIG if I had the space, time, money, skills to use it properly.
