Title: BDS vs Procomp
Post by: lefty on October 30, 2006, 03:56:17 PM
Anyone had experince of the BDS 3" lift kit? I'm using the xj more and more these days and the ride is a bit on the hard side (Procomp stage 2 3" F/R).

Couple of questions:

1. Is it possible to just fit softer springs to replace the Procomp ones?
2. Does the BDS kit have a sofet set up?
3. Any other benfits to the bds kit?

The xj just failed its MOT because the bushes on my 10-month old suspension kit packed up  :(

I don't know if it will help but most people here stay away from Pro Comp, just too stiff. BDS is a good product and after some hard flexing will soften for the road. I thought mine was way better than stock.

Got the BDS 2" kit on my Grand & think its great. Was stiff to start with but after some miles and some flexing is spot on now, a bit firmer and more controlled than stock. Needed to fit JKS bar pin eliminators to stop the front shocks clunking.
Have heard the XJ leafs are mega but they are expensive.

Fitted Skyjacker springs to a TJ that had an RE 3.5" lift but the owner felt was too stiff. These made it much more supple, but would now benefit from gas shocks to stiffen it up a bit on the street, although it still handles fine.

Hi i got my 1.75" BDS lift kit from http://www.bigrapidsoffroad.co.uk/ (http://www.bigrapidsoffroad.co.uk/)  however I have not been able to get on the site for sometime now as it tells me i'm not authorised to view it. you could try the email   (bigrapids@btinternet.com )  The guys name is Gwyn formerly of mountian jacks.

Thanks fellas, i noticed the bds site was down... The procomp stuff isn't that great at all.

questions is, is it worth going to 4.5"??

i've found my 3" procomp rear springs are starting top sag after only a year and 7k miles

I dont think Gwyn is doing anything jeep related anymore. You could order from BDS direct and I am sure they also have a ditributor in Germany.

You need to speak to Tim.  We've just fitted a 4.5" Rustys lift to his truck.
It's been transformed into quite a monster and flexes like a good un.

Wasn't expensive either.
