noticed today when over taking a shutter or shaking when over taking over 80 mph in a kj 02 crd 2.5
any ideas
-
yup slow down
-
was over taking another on motorway
is this shaking or shutter normal
-
can it be felt from the steering or the whole body of the car
-
whole body
-
could it be something to do with differencals
-
no noises just shudders you aint put new tyres on one end have ya
-
no new tyres, tyres benn on 7 months
theres no plqay in stearing when driving, drives fine under 75 mph,you feel it around 80 mph,if you go faster, doesnt get any worse
what do the kj suffer from most, joints, wouldn't the joints be noticed at 55-60
-
one thing i know the back two tyres are different from front two tyres
like grapper tyres in back and normal type car tread tyres in front
-
recon the tyres are the prob with two different types. or maybe the prop is a touch off balance.
-
chatting to guys in lost forum and they say its common with kj with different tyres
guess i'll be changing the tyres

what you mean prop off balance
prop shaft
-
Yup.
Prop shaft out of balance, bent or twisted is a possibility, as you've said, 80MPH is the critical speed in top, now find a nice, quiet, straight road and try a couple of other gears, if the same thing happens at lower speeds then there is your problem.
A failed universal could cause vibrations like this too. Put the jeep in first/park, handbrake on, block the wheels for safety's sake and grab the propshafts and twist, watch the yokes and check for relative movement between the two. Small movement could be knackered needle rollers (when did you last grease them), big movement with horrid noises could even be a broken cardian, either way, change both ends at the some time.
Whilst under the old girl, check the splines on the propshafts, if they are all sloppy that could be another cause.
Remember the above could all be cumulative, ie a bit of each can add up to a terrible vibration and unless you find the cause and fix it your fillings will just keep dropping out!

doesnt happen at other gear speeds
will check it out
sometimes when changing ,can hear when changing gears can hear a sound like jump, picking up slack when it engages the gear, but doesnt happen alot, just now and again
-
could be a uj starting to tighten up.
-
tyres pull funny in wet
-
discribe what you mean mate.
-
in wet road tonight, comming into around about, didnt feel right, could very easy loose it,have grapper in rear and normal ply tyres in front,
thinking will have to change fronts soon
-
try and get a set of matching tyres for a start but i aint sure about the vibe thing
-
from what i read,kj have a vib around 75-80 mph, some say it goes away after while, some say its tyres, all say its normal
will have it checkout when getting it serviced as the guy can put up on lift and heck everything
passed the nct here which like mot in uk,they check everything, swinging off ,thought they would break something
