Title: vacuum unit on xj
Post by: Dave69 on December 04, 2006, 09:05:34 PM
does the vacuum unit have any moving parts inside i.e a sliding baffle or blanking plate ?

on start up i have a noise that sounds like a baffle being moved under pressure then it releases. lasts for a few seconds then goes quiet. it can be affected buy altering the heater direction setting. would it/can it be servicable ?

The doors in your heater box default to demist when there is no vacuum applied. Is this happening every time you start up or just if it has been sitting for a while? You may have a bit of a vacuum leak but not a total failure. Check that the vacuum reservoir does not have a crack in it and that the pipwork is all secure.

sounds like something like that is happening nearly everytime it starts. sounds like a suction build up then release.
don't want to sound daft but what does it look like and i believe it's near the front bumper somewhere

If you have a '97 or newer XJ it is on the other side and is round not oval.

That looks like a left hand drive, I think all RHD are on the other side.
