Title: Bronco tyres
Post by: thebluebus on January 28, 2007, 07:03:15 PM
Looking at either of these for playing around -

http://http://www.bronco4x4.com/viewProductCat.asp?prodId=1025&nodeId=&divId=

http://http://www.bronco4x4.com/viewProductCat.asp?prodId=34&nodeId=&divId=

Anyone used either? Which would you recommend?
Don't need to worry about road use, they're going on a spare set of rims.
Thanks

Provided not for road use, or at least extended road use, definitely the Grizzly Claw.

I had the Grizzly Claws on 15 inch wheels, and they were great in the mud.
On the road they were so noisey it sounded like a light aircraft was following you up the motorway.
They also started to shed lugs after a while.
I would use them again if it was for off road only.

Personally I'd go for these.

Chris they look cool, and they're way cheaper (which is a feature I like).

I'm after a really aggressive tyre to make the most of my unlifted situation, that's why I thought the Bronco's might've done it.

I've got Recips on Barbie.  I'll certainly be buying more.

There's lots of people seen them in action that'll tell you how well they work off road and on road they're much better than Grizzlies.

OK I was being lazy. Looks like they are Q up to 99 which strikes me as very good indeed.

Damn I wish I could justify them.

That'svery good isn't it?

I think that's 106 mph which surely must cover most Jeeps?

was advised from a very reliable source (the manufacturer) to run them at 40psi for everyday use on road to protect the side lugs. they can be deflated a bit when off road to get max traction.   sounds a bit high to me, i run mine at 30psi .... Anyone else have input ?

well thats what i thought too :?  but someone i know had trouble with the side lugs splitting so contacted the manufacturer to complain and they replied with that advice. I know a few people who have these and no one else has had any bother with them though  (but that could be because he passed the info on to everyone).

Post by: chrisjones on February 03, 2007, 03:03:27 PM
I run mine at 33psi.  They've been on for a good six months and the trucks a daily driver.  I've not had any problems with splitting.

I've gotta say 40psi sounds way too much to me.

Post by: Sam on February 03, 2007, 09:17:13 PM
well im gonna agree with you chris, ive had a propper drive round town in it today and i think im gonna let them down a bit it feels way too hard.

The bloke who gave me the original advice must like the concrete tyre effect but i sure dont. :?

Post by: mike90 on February 04, 2007, 08:53:14 AM
I wonder if you get better mpg at the higher pressure? I can feel my diamonds holding onto the tarmac at 20 psi. Well I think I can anyway.

20 is far too low. 28-30 is about right.

Well, this afternoon I went to pick up the spare set of rims that'll take the mud rubber.

Stock KJ steels, fitted with part-worn (but still plenty good) Pirelli Scorpion road tyres - £120 for four, including the tyres.

Thank you mister eBay!

When the Recips arrive this week I'll be bang on for action.

Recips arrived today.

three recips arrived today

Who delivers 3 tyres???

Spoke to the bloke at Tyres Direct and he has gone to investigate...

Finally they're fitted, and this morning I put them on the bus.

The bloke at my local tyre place fitted them to the rims at 30psi, but he reckoned I'd want to air them down a bit when I go off road.

They look totally ace - I'll put up some new pics in Member's Rides later. Although they're the same size as the Goodyear OEMs (I've got no lift), the Recips are one whole inch bigger in diameter.

I measured...

I know they're not 33s or anything, but they make the Bus look so much cooler - new pic added to the members' rides.

I am completely made up  :D

Dunno about Premiers
Title:
Post by: tag on April 02, 2007, 07:35:39 PM
Yeah,  that's  what i thought looking at the aggressive tread pattern, also on the machos, i have run that type before on landrovers, for off road,  i want something a bit milder for DD, the premiers  are 20/80 but not as aggressive ........cya

Hi,
how far can your tyres stick out beyond the wheel arch and still be legal? or can't they stick out at all!   as i will be getting new tyres this week, I'm considering  30.9.50   or 31.10.50 i think the 30s will be ok but not sure about 31s.......
Title:
Post by: tim_aka_tim on April 10, 2007, 06:29:35 PM
On stock rims, 31s won't stick out.

Cheers,   31s it is then!!

Post by: tag on April 13, 2007, 08:20:01 PM
Hi,

picked up my new tyres today,  went for premier m/t 31s  turns out they are made by hurcules tire company Canada who supply north America.
they're very nice 15mm tread not to aggressive and it was a bit of a shock seeing how big they are! got a good deal of the manager and free coffees while we had a look round, the place is enormous, I've put some pics on my album. need to clean and paint my wheels before i have them fitted I'll post more pics when there on! .......cya :D
Title:
Post by: tag on April 17, 2007, 06:00:04 PM
Well,  i was going to paint before fitting but got carried away,  put them on today and like them a lot!!  it seems to ride better and hardly any noise!  Thinking of painting the rims matt black, a few pics......  http://birtydastardsjeepclub.com/forum/ ... ser_id=627 (http://birtydastardsjeepclub.com/forum/album_personal.php?user_id=627)

Post by: thebluebus on April 23, 2007, 07:37:10 PM
tag, did you paint your wheels in the end?

I was going to do something like that to my off-road set of steelies. But I couldn't decide on stealthy black or on-a-motorsport-tip white.

I just think they need to be a bit more fun than grey (see 'em in members rides pics) - specially when they're for fun use anyway  :D
Title:
Post by: tag on April 23, 2007, 08:17:47 PM
Well , i started by taking a wheel off , but got side tracked. i saw the shite in the wheel arch and began cleaning painting, shultzing, the whole front end. but yes i will paint them Matt black.  i had a v8 landy green with Matt black wheels it looked cool.  the best paint I've found for the job is sperex spray cans it's engine enamel expensive but worth it..........cya :D
