i was asked today what was the best tyre size to have a simple enough qestion but not so simple to answer so i said 31.10.50 as it is normaly as big as most folk go but i also thaught that 33.12 .50 was prolly the next most populer and a better one to go for if you can mod up for them but i wondered what the rest of ya thought
-
No sense messing about with the little ones.....
37X12.50 17's
-
true but they are so dang spensive
-
But it's not the cost of the 37s that's the issue, so much as the £5000 (or whatever) if lift to make them fit.
"What's the best tyre size?" does not have an easy answer without knowing what the driver wants to do and how much they are prepared to spend to get it done.
-
What I found out today is that mine are too small!
Tiny wee things, bless 'em, no more than 29 1/2" high.
Need bigger - much bigger
-
The best size tyres, are the ones that are the next size up to the ones youve already got...
-
it'll cost you to go bigger in the KJ

but you start thinking, if i had 33's
Yep, but then I start to think I'd need new rear axle shafts, a re-gear and fender flares. Suddenly 31's are OK.
-
my bank manager advised me to stick with 31's for a while yet
-
what size are yours then MOCAJ if they're 31s? Are they about 265 75? Are you lifted?
-
245/70 R16 Grabber AT's on the KJ- biggest you can go without rubbing, its not lifted
31's on the TJ-Grabber MT's- 2" teraflex lift and 1" body lift
We started same as you and caught the bug, but realised the KJ wasn't the tool so bought the TJ for playin. Like to have ago in the KJ on the easier bits though

Talking of tyre size, what's the biggest I can fit on a 2" lifted XJ if I was prepared to trim the arches as much as possible, 32's?
-
depends on what you call "trimming"
-
Hacking could be a better word, if thats what's needed!
-
I am getting a bit of rubbing at full lock with the mud tyres on.
Although they're the same 235 70 16 as stock, they are actually one whole inch taller.

What tyre size is best?
Looking at used prices for 15" (on the bay);
It seems 31's fetch top money.
33's seem to go for reasonable/bargain money; could be because there is a smaller market for them (eg no stock Jeep).
35's + maybe sell for good money based on rarity factor.
So on that basis 31's could be judged as the most popular.
