Dear Deadrie...
Today i will mostly be crying and worrying. :(
my gears have been grinding for a while and in the last couple of days 1st and 2nd have been sometimes impossible to get (cant even grind it in - its as if they arnet there)
so today i got myself all motivated to check and change my fluids and have a little inspection- ha what a joke wish id never looked. boo hoo im nearly sniveling here. it looks like its bleeding from every orifice
is this normal (i suspect not)

its just a hole it was all chocka with mud so i srcaped it all out and you can poke a screwdriver right in it. (http://http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v479/sam123tom/smileys/speechless-smiley-023.gif)
As for changing fluids - sounds easy in the haynes book but i cant figure out which are drain and fill holes (the pictures in the books look nothing like mine). in fact the damn book is tottaly pants and at the mo i wanna jump up and down on it whilst shouting obscenities loudly. :cry:
any advise apreciated

pinion seal it's no big deal as it is not uncommon for the nut to back off......

changing fluids, big bolt on the bottom of gearbox side drops the oil.
the other bolt half way up the side of the gearbox above the drain hole is where you put the new oil in untill it starts to come out of the same hole your filling it through.

pinion seal it's no big deal as it is not uncommon for the nut to back off......
no big deal well thats what i like to hear, should i just try tightening the nut or buy a new seal and fit:?

ooh jonny you make it sound so simple (well it probably is if your you and not me) sorry to be a complete pain in the jacksy and thanks for the help. But in the book it says the drain and fill holes are on opposite sides but i dont really believe that as the pictures in there dont look anything like my GB. your instructions are fab and i reckon it would be easy enough, i think i can see the drain one BUT there are about 5 others above and around this one the same side (and some on the other side)and im not sure which is the correct fill hole. i wish they would label these things.

the drain hole is the one you've marked drain. the fill hole is the one on the photo of the other side of the box by the clutch slave, its about halfway up the side of the box. i am sure that's the one but just double check.

ooh ta greggmo :) the fuzzyness in my head is starting to clear now (well slightly)
oh hell its chucking it down out there now bugger. think im off to match dot com to see if any mechanics want to marry me.....................

Don't stress about the diffs weeping oil. It's from all that fine sand/clay at kirton. It screwed mine up as well.
If you have never changed it you should pull the diff covers and drain the oil.
Clean the cover and the housing where the bolts go in nice and clean, let all the oil drain out, put a continuous bead (diam of a pencil) of black or red rtv around the cover. Center the rtv over the bolt holes. Let it tack up for 15 mins or so and lightly stick it on the housing. Put all the bolts in finger tight then snug them down a little till the rtv starts squeezing out. Let them sit for a few hrs then refill it till the oil runs out the fill hole. Make sure you put additive in the rear if you have a D35.
From then on just make sure you keep it topped up. If your seal isn't so bad that it leaves drips in the drive then don't worry about it. Save that job for when you put in lockers!!
As far as the tranny, sounds like she may have bad syncro's. Nothings gonna fix that but a rebuild. Try the oil though, ya never know. Try full synthetic also.

, its taking me all my time to keep the daft thing just running. if its not the gears its the brakes, or the battery, or the cooling system or he lights or everything else for that matter..................................
