Title: crunchy gears

is it normal for a wrangler 2.5 manual to crunch the gears.... especialy reverse and changing down from 4th to 3rd......

Sounds like the syncro mesh is worn. Try going into first before reverse and blip the throttle before slipping into the lower gear when changing down.

that does sound like the syncro,s. mine went in mine last year so it had a rebuild.

Won't be synchro if you're having trouble engaging reverse, could be the clutch hydraulics packing up though.

Crunchy Gears. Do you have them before or after toast?   :brows:
Do to have any covers you can remove to see if your shafts are still stable or have your bearings succumbed to old age and abuse? Uneven wear on the gear flanks is often a sign of too much play, missing teeth is generally regarded as a BAD thing!

this gonna sound crap but if you change the oil three or four times over a month it can improve the feel of the gear change in paticular reverse selection  but it wont heal bad bearings but its cheap and heck you can do it yaself worth a shot in my book
