What's the useful difference between these two sizes:
235/85 R16 and 265/75 R16?
for example http://http://www.lewis4x4.co.uk/tyres.asp?Make=Colway+Greenway+Anaconda+%28set+of+four%29&Size=all
Obviously there's 30mm width difference. but the diameter is nigh on the same. So why choose one over the other? Is it just looks?
The prices are even the same...
-
Well, one set is slightly wider (265 against 235 mm)
The reason they are about the same diameter is the aspect ratio, or if ya like percentage.
That is, the wall hieght is a percentage of the tyre with (85 percent of 235mm ). So, 85% of 235mm x 2 = the tyre diameter, or there abouts.
So the choice might be about clearance, can you fit a wider tyre, or a narrower one of the same diameter?
-
Thanks Mick, but I did realise how the aspect ratios worked.
I just wondered what would make you choose one size over the other for actual use.
I suppose a narrower tyre might be more effective in mud...?
-
one will rub on control arms one wont???
its normaly down to taste.
some think tall skinny tyres are netter in mud some thing tall fat tyres are better.
me i dont really think there is a difference both work well under the principals but i prefer the look of big fat tyres
-
They are basically 33x9.5 vs. 32x10.5.
Just depends on what you can fit and what you prefer/think is better.
-
They are basically 33x9.5 vs. 32x10.5.
they will not fit you liberty without a really big lift and mucho cutting
-
Yup MOCAJ 8)
And remember, there are no really big lifts for the Liberty
...except SFA
-
SFA is the way to go if you want to seriously froad it and if you have the dollars.
But, if you remember its limitations, it can still do a bit
I dont think i am going to lift mine as i might be changin soon and we have the TJ to play with
