from this weekends wheeling, on my daughters TJ
(http://http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p70/Caerfeddwyd/damage.jpg)
as it looks a little off, its time to upgrade the tierod and the draglink.
I can get 1 1/4 solid chromoly rods cut and threaded for 5/8 16 or 7/8 18 tie rod ends for 50 bucks(US) each piece .
Question is can I use the bigger TRE's on the stock TJ knuckles without mods, and what model vehicle should I order the TRe's for at the parts store parts store. Any one have experience with this mod.
PS she had a blast and this was the only damage so its almost all good.

you will need to ream out the knuckle for the larger tre.........and any one tonne should do the job for you.

thanks Peter, is reaming the knuckles pretty straight forward? what would work better die grinder or drill bit?
-
You can but a tapered reamer - just match the size the the TRE you want to use.
Stock WJ TREs are much bigger than XJ/TJ and fit the same size knuckle hole but they have a 24mm thread and the taps are fairly expensive to thread the tubing.

normally it is done by hand, very slowly.
