Joy of Joy, my 1999 2.5 TD Cherokee suffered the indignation of its power steering pump and air con compressor distintegrating into small pieces as I drove merrily along a country lane yesterday.
Now, anyone know if its a relatively easy job to replace and any suggestions on a good parts supplier?

Hmm. The dealer will fleece you for over a grand for those parts, and lighthouse doesn't do diesel parts. You might give Mansfield 4x4 a ring.
Also keep an eye on the bay, and ring a few breakers. The aircon compressor needs to be fitted professionally really as it needs specialist kit.
Replacing the aircon with an idler is an option.
For info, the parts you need are 55035 993AC for the compressor, and 4883 460AA for the power steering pump.
The p/s pump is the same for all MK2 diesels (and possibly MK1s - haven't checked), but the compressor is peculiar to that year and that engine.

i`d give mansfield a ring for a compressor and pump 01206396644 however as stated above the air con compressor is a spezialist job due to the refridgerant which needs to be purged and refilled

Snozer if you are looking for 2nd hand parts at a reasonable price nip over to RockzNRutz and have a word with KD, he has a load of XJ's he is breaking and should be able to sort you something out quite sharpish. Just click on the link and you will be taken to the right place.

Thanks for that, they few motor factors I have phoned all said they power steering pump had the fluid reservoir attached so they must have the wrong catalogue/part number

Anyone know what spec of power steering fluid I need for a 99 2.5TDI jeep cherokee, all the manual says is mopar...

You need to buy the proper stuff from the dealer unfortunately. ATF could well damage it.
-
Don't worry, it's not expensive.
-
with the jeep ps fluid dont get it on your skin as it is nasty stuff. a hell of alot worse than the normal ps fluid bought over the conter at motor factors
-
fek what is this mad power steering fluid then i did like life when it was easy to just use pink atf in almost all steering systems
-
Don't worry, it's not expensive.
Just bought some £3.19 for 2l from the local chrysler dealers
-
the daft thing with the chrysler stuff is all to do with the seals in the steering box. on the tin it is /was stamped carconagenic (sp) where as the normal atf stuff stinks to high heaven and stains everything it is slightly more enviromentally friendly. Also i'm led to belive the two types dont mix. as for cost it's not that expensive as posted above but does invole a trip to the dealer
