Hi Everyone
sorry Im here again for info :)
We were wondering what lift do you need for 35" tyres?
Also where do we get a set of 15 x 10 off set wheels?
Thanx Helen
-
ask away its not a problem the tj gang will be along soon i think it will go somthing like 4inch lift 1indh body lift maybe 2 are you are you geared for 35s if not a regear and extended arches dont take my word for it as i am a cj guy
-
i have 35" tyres and 5" suspension lift with a 1" body lift...........as for wheels, what are your requirements? can you be more specific? back spacing or bead-lock so on.
peter henry
-
Its back spacing to make the Tj wide
As for gearing we never gave it a thought
...would we have to do this wi 33s?
we are planning a 2" Susp and 2" body
-
3.75 back spacing should be enough (you will also need to put bigger wheel arch extension on) as for gearing of course this will have to be put to the correct r&p, and with 35" tyres a lot of strength added to the drive line, 33" tyre (will require 4.56 r&p) is a much more cost affective option.
peter henry
-
oh my god
i dont even know where to take it to get gearing done
What will happen if we just put it all on(33s) and NOT get gearing done
eek im scared of the answer
Helen
-
if you fit 33" tyres without r&p you can forget fifth gear and will struggle on long hills fuel economy (what little a wrangler has ) will suffer also.

If only it was that simple!!!
-
some folk in the states just use them as they are but would think they must be dire to drive but we do have mik who is top notch regear man very frendly works part time in ikea ya know or forget the regear and but a monster fuel injected v8 in it
-
AArgh dont mention the V8 thing
he loves V8s and will say
"see told you it would be better wi a V8 in it"
far too many £££££
Helen
-
ok, i have put together a scale for you.
35" tyres ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££
33" tyres ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££
31" tyres ££££££££
hope you find this useful.

cant get any simpler than that
-
peter, i like that, it is so simple and bang on

TOOOO many £s...should have bought a land rover
-
TOOOO many £s...should have bought a land rover
What 2" lift are you looking at ?
And dont buy a land rover
-
TOOOO many £s...should have bought a land rover
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Saying that on here is heresy!
-
ok who does regearing - is it any garage or do they have to be specialist..and approx how much is it and the wrangler is an auto if this makes any differance
loking at a coil spring lift or another one i think old man emu 2" kit
Helen
-
Mik for the re-gear, he posts on here and will tell you costs, drop him a pm
I have Tj with 2" teraflex and 1" body lift, running 31's but 33@ will fit under nicely but cant afford the re-gear just yet
also have a Tj with 2" emu lift, no body lift and running 31@s, 33's no chance
If you have made your mind up to go straight to 33's its going to cost, i would go 31's and then go from there. A Tj on 31's can do some suprising stuff.
-
already got 31s on ...we just put them on they rub on jeep on full lock its terriable to park.
my other half, the one who loves the jeep has a company van and only drives the jeep on a sunday.... I am the one who has got to drive it to work every day i dont want 35s on at all and will put up with 33s if we make it wider as well as taller. It will do a bit of off road but nothing to damage it (I hope) as i need it every day.
we both do the maintenance on the jeep that is why its always me who asks the questions.
he just makes wish lists lol

you can stop the 31's rubbing by putting a few washers in the steering stops. easy fix
-
i would fit a 2" lift and a small body lift and be done with it, no re-gear costs and stick with your 31's. Fairly capable if you want to go off-road and ok on the road as a daily driver.
The 2" lift will give the tyres plenty of room to move and fit disconnects for the front sway bar so the axle can move more off road,
As you dont off-road much you can grow with the truck and then if you want more you can go for it
-
washers.. as simple as that and ive put up with this juddering for months now ...hope the weather is good on sunday i think we will be working on the jeep ...again
thanks for that

if its a daily and ya wanna go 33,s you gotta go to at least 4.11 gears therefore you need new gear carriers therefore you might as well go for truetrax or lockers. 33,s wont happily fit on stock tj rims so ya need wheels. i recon you need at least 3inch of lift and stick with 1inch body lift as you can get issues with 2inch (steering?) if ya gonna go wider you need to cover tyres or pc plod will moan at ya so flares will need doin. how ever you do it it aint cheap but if you want to do it just go for it. hey its only money and ya cant take it with ya.

If you think that £xpensive try doing 35s on a zj!!! I need the following
7” long arm suspension lift £1300 ish not inc taxes from usa
np 231 t case £ 300 ish from GT 4X4
sye £600 ish
ford 8.8 rear axle £350 ish from GT 4X4
new prop shafts too scared to ask
re gear to scared to think about
lockers cant bear to think about
steering modifications
uprated callipers
then the wheels and tyres
looks like some overtime is on the cards :(
-
to stop the tyre rubbing problem simply adjust the lock stop bolts out slightly both sides and hey presto as its an auto do the fit the wheels and tyres see how you get on as the autos are slightly lower geared then the manuals but it would seem from the use it gets it would be far cheaper to simply get some nice wheels stay at 31s and buy a cheap cj for the other half and v8that cjs are very modable fairly cheaply and simpler to go monster with
-
Anything over 2" suspension lift and 31s is an expensive can of worms on a TJ. IMO if you want to vave fun on a budget (and there's lots to be had) and keep it a daily driver;
Stick with your 31" tyres
Fit a 2" budget boost (spacers so you keep the stock ride quality and cheap as chips)
Fit longer gas shocks.
Fit front swaybar disconnects to aid articulation
If you still want a taller wider look get a set of 8" rims with 3.75" backspacing and fit a 1" body lift. (the rims will also address the rubbing without losing the nice tight turning circle a Wrangler has without messing with the steering stops. You might get away with the stock fender flares like this, but if you fit wide ones the wheels should be wide enough to fill them and look good.
Following from Peters £-ometer here's a TJ tyre-ometer
31"- no lift required but minor clearence problems without 2" lift offroad, slight loss in performance but tolerable.
33" - requires lift of at least 3", preferably to suspension, this leads to the need for SYE mod to transfer case. 8" rims and extended fender flares required. Starting to get noticably more thirsty, performance severely impaired without regearing, brakes start to struggle a little, steering system now at the limit of what it can do without modification. Becoming a pain in the a$$ to use without all required mods done properly.
35" - requires big lift, reworked steering plus all of the above, regear essential or will be pretty unusable on the street, strength of axles and other driveline components very questionable at this level, brakes puny and fuel consumption terrible. With a lot of expensive work, can be made into a reliable daily driver, but even then will be a very different ani,al to stock.
Also, be warned. Stay out of deep water unless you have extended the breathers for axles, transfer case and gearbox. If you have the old 3 speed auto tranny it has to be removed as the original breather is a hole behind the torque converter and has to be plugged and a new one drilled in the top of the housing. If you get water inside it'll be toast.

but apart from all that happy wheeling.
quote "should have brought a landie" nah a G-wagon comes with diff locks

thank you all very much for your advice and tips ......we will take it a on board when we start this task
we hope to see you all again at cheapfest

5th gear pah luxury all you need is 4

if you go for 33" tyres then you will need to regear diffs to 4.56. This will return your on road performance to normal and will give you the engine braking you will need for controlled steep decents without using the brakes.
For 33s I am running 3.5" of suspension lift and 1" of body lift and have shed loads of articulation. You may just about get away with 2" of suspension and 2" body lift which could avoid SYE and poor steering geometry that larger suspension lifts suffer from.
As you have your location down as Portsmouth you may want to have a look at this website http://www.offroadmdg.co.uk/html/contact.html (http://www.offroadmdg.co.uk/html/contact.html)
My TJ is often seen around the Pompey area as I live in Gosport. Green Sahara with Black Soft Top and yellow & white stickers along bonnet.
