I've had something strange happena couple of times today. Started it from cold and warm after sitting for a while. All's fine for the first 30 seconds, then it starts misfiring and trying to stall, then after about another 30 seconds it's fine. Any ideas?

Crank sensor or upstream O2 sensor.
-
Is there anyway to test it? Or should I just take it to a garage?
-
See if you can borrow a working one from someone to try, IIRC they're about £80 each.
-
Look at the volt meter on the dash. You should see about 13.5v if the alternator is charging.
-
Voltage gauge is spot on.
It only does it for about 30 seconds and then it runs perfectly
-
If it is the crank sensor, is it likely to just packup? I'm suppose to be greenlaning tomorrow and don't really fancy breaking down in the middle of nowhere
-
Where is the CPS?
-
i believe (from memory) in the 2 o'clock position on the back of the engine as your looking at it.

The cars still playing up. It's been in today and the garage can't find a fault, anyone got any more ideas?
I'm starting to get a bit fed up with it, so if I can't get it fixed in the next couple of weeks I'm going to part-ex it for something else
-
Has it been scanned for fault codes? Dif you take it to a dealer with a scanner that will display sensor outputs while driving? Sometimes a sensor can go faulty without being out of parameters so wont generate a fault code so you have to monitor their performance as the fault occurs to find the culprit.
-
It wasn't a main dealer, to be honest I can't afford their prices.
I'm thinking I might get rid this week. We're suppose to be going away next weekend with the caravan and I just don't trust it to get us there. I'd rather take our old Landy, at least I know that'll work, it'll just take twice aslong to get there!!!
-
it is possible just the coolant temp sensor reading wrong at a certan temperature like 15 C 16C 10C 17C until it gets his reading right
that will not show up as a fault but it will have cold start probs
-
It turns out it's an O2 sensor. It went into the dealership last week, but the part won't be in until sometime this week, so we've had to cancel our holiday
-
well if you have had to cancel yer holls just come to cheapfest and party with us. 8)
-
Tempting mate, but it's going to cost £210, so that's all my beer tokens gone for this month
-
£210 are ya mad? just order the part from lighthouse and bring it to cheapfest and we will fit it for ya for nothin. http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=8167 (http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=8167) thats £35 mate. i recon you will get one off lighthouse for about £50ish. dont get ripped off by the stealers mate. just by one and we will fit it for ya.
-
Cheers for the offer, but I left it with em for the part to come in. It's sat down there with the origanal part removed.
To be honest I know they're a rip off, but I needed the fault diagnosing and had no other way of doing it. They been quite honest about the cost from the beginning. Fingers crossed it'll be done tomorrow
-
Hooray it's fixed!!!
