I am playing with the idea of removing the catalytic converter on my 99 Grand cherokee wj.Has anyone done this, will it put any MIL lamps on,is there a way to reset MIL lamps if they do come on?
My car doesnt need cats due to lpg conversion and it is begining to rattle a bit at tickover so i was just going to make up a straight section to fit but leave the oxygen sensors in place
I have done it before on my previous cars but none of them have had an after cat sensor???

If you remove the cat the pcm will put up the light as it will detect cat failure. If you remove the sensor the light will come on due to sensor failure. I doubt if it will pass an MoT test even on LPG without the cat anyway.

Yeah when i bought my jeep it sounded a bit noisy and had my suspicions the cat was not right, but there was no lights showing on the dash, when it came to the mot a few months later it failed on the emissions i asked if the cat was bad but they weren't sure but told me the sensers were ok as they were getting readings on the computer. I bought a new cat to fit when i removed the old one it was empty nothing inside!! fitted the new one and it passed no problems, it runs better to!
straight through cat CO 0.46
new cat CO 0.01
