hello!
I have a 97 facelift xj, I recently noticed an occassional clunk/crack from the steering which has appeared after a few trips over rough terrain.
Had a quick look and where the shaft goes into the steering box it can be moved up/down by hand a little and can also get it to make the knocking noise.
The question is.. should adjusting the box take up this play or could it be something more sinister?
the box itself seems secure to the chassis and there isnt abnormal play in the steering, just the worring noise!
I changed the steering box about 15k miles ago with a supposedly low mileage one.
thanks in advance

Make sure the securing bolts for the bracket on the chassis for the track bar are FT
-
they can wiggle a bit loose after getting changed despite seeming to be tight

thanks also probably solved my clunking sound as well
