Title: 1996 cherokee electric windows

my 1996 cherokee electric windows have stopped working, the car has been parked up for some time and the battery has been changed/charged a few times. On connecting the battery again, the windows will work for a very short time, i.e. within the first minute or two, then they stop completely. Anyone any idea's , I have no experience on car electric's so any pointers would be appreciated. TIA Jim.

That happened to my first XJ (a 96 too)

I changed the electric window relay, in the panel above your left knee behind the dash. Sorted it for me
