Title: Facelift Cherokee Heater matrix replacement
Post by: garyf on November 06, 2007, 08:22:07 PM: Hi, just after an heads up of whats involved in the replacement of the heater matrix before I go head strong into ripping out the dash and interior to find there's a way you can do it without.

Also anybody got any contacts for a cheap replacement or any ideas where I could get it repaired in and around Doncaster area.

Post by: garyf on November 11, 2007, 07:30:18 PM: After spending about 4 hours today just getting to the heater box itself :x I understand why nobody could give advice obviously other people have more sense and let somebody else do it.

The only problem I have at this point is I can't get the air con pipe to split :? just outside the firewall has anybody any ideas. I have removed the clips but the pipes will not split not sure how they are connected they look like they could be flared over each other???? had a fridge guy drain all the refigerant off so there shouldn't be a problem with the fluid when they do split.

Post by: Mike Pavelin on November 12, 2007, 12:43:25 PM: You need a special tool to spread the spring locking the pipe flares together. Try a local motor factor, they come in sets of about 5 different sizes.

Post by: garyf on December 17, 2007, 10:37:47 PM: managed to get it done but by god what a job :? , very nearly lost interest and fancied braking the Jeep for parts instead of putting it back together, any how it went back together great and I realised that you don't need to take out half the bits that I did-

Bit of a long story so I'll try to cut it short - got it all back together except for heater control panel, when I went to connect up the heater fan electrics to the switches they weren't there :cry: but this time took me less than 2 hours to remove and refit, what a difference a bit of on the job knowledge does, anyway heater fitted and glowing warm again :idea: If anybody needs any advice please feel free to give me shout prior to stripping thing down to the bare bones.

focus = 4hrs
x300 (ally jag) = 2hrs
i have made special pins to fix into the A pillar bolt holes so that you slide the dash back and it stops it dropping onto the floor which can be a pain to refit when your on your own, that gives you just enough space to fix what your after.

remember if you can see it you can change it !!!

HI Gary how did you manage to remove the 5/6 10mm bolts that hold the heater box to the bulkhead as they seem impossible to get at when engine rocker box is in the way or did you manage to get the top off the plastic box?regds Steve

Post by: garyf on December 19, 2007, 10:33:04 PM: got to say never really had an issue with them, all I used was a SnapOn double ended ring spannerand I got in fine, I did remove the air intake box that sits on top of intake manifold though?? whether this makes the differnce I don't know,

the worst bit is just knowing which blooming screw to take out next :? , I must have removed 200 self tappers by the time I'd finished!! but hey it's all done now.
