Title: Cherokee Safari Snorkel Fitting Template
Post by: garyf on November 06, 2007, 11:11:30 PM
Hi, I have got hold of a secondhand Safari snorkel for my 4ltr facelift Cherokee and was wondering if anybody had by any chance got a fitting template that goes over the wing.

Would greatly appreciate this as its a fair risk drilling an 89mm hole in the wing of your pride and joy and hoping you get it right place.

Cheers

If you cover the area to be cut with masking tape and then press the snorkel against it, the mounting studs will leave marks giving a good guide on where to make the hole.

that was my thoughts when I bought it, the problem with that is that the studs are recessed behind the formed tube that feeds through the wing so if you offer the snorkel up the tube rests against the wing and the studs are around 40mm away.

get your hole in place for the tube then do the same for the studs mate. just be careful and eye it up before you drill.

that's the worry getting the hole in, the hole is 89mm and there isn't a lot of room for error, if it's in the wrong place it leaves a fair old hole to fill, the tube is dog legged and runs parallel inside the wing so there isn't a point where you can offer it and get the perfect markings to drill.

If there is nobody who has a template then youre right I will have to gamble and hope its right, but to be honest i have never won the lottery and luck never seems to be in my favour when I gamble something like this

get a piece of paper and get a reverse transfer off the snorkel by rubbing the paper to get the impression. transfer some reference marks from the snorkel and add them to the paper transfer you have just made so when you line the snorkel up on the masked wing the marks can be put in place, and then you line up the transfer to them when it is put on the wing which when taped in place will be ready for drilling.

well it's something like that
