I have a 1996 Cherokee Jeep with the 2.5 VM diesel engine fitted , it recently blew what i thought was just the head gasket but further inspection shows that the seal around the top of the liner to the head has leaked for some time causing nasty pits to both the head in a circle pattern and also the top of the liner itself.
Was given what has turned out to be a 2.4 VM td engine from a Range Rover
so now stuck with 3 options, 1 is to do a complete swap which i dont fancy doing as i have no idea if the 2.4 is any good, 2. Replace the liner and use the 2.4's cylinder heads if compatible? as at least 1 of the original ones is maybe beyond repair and either way all 4 would need skimming 3. Try and source just 1 replacement head and new liner then use the 2.4 VM to sell and help fund getting the parts for the 2.5 rebuild.
Kind of waffled a bit but to sum up, i have no idea how inter changeable the VM parts are or what the best way to go would be as far as engine life and reliability, doing this for my brother in law so not making a penny out of it just want him to have a good reliable Jeep at the end of it.
Any info no matter how small would realy help me out guys.

But you may need to chase him - tried to get some idler pullies from him for 2 days - to collect them (only 20miles away) - I talked to him around a dozen times but he still did not give me a definite price, tell me when to collect, or phoned me once - in the end I went to stealers - only about £5 more than the prices he was guessing at.
But he really does know what he's talking about

He was talking about moving workshop/office, so recommended I phone him on his mobile...

To balance that, I ordered stuff from him one afternoon, he said he would box it up the next day, it arrived the day after, very good service.

I will be trying him next time I need something - probably just caught him at a bad time :?
