Hi all. New to the forum after buying a 99 Jeep Cherokee. I've always wanted one and finally got one as a second car.....I really love everything about it.
My passenger seat will move forwards but not backwards (it is currently stuck about 4 inches from the dash after someone fiddling with the switches despite me telling them the seat wouldn't go back!).
I was wondering if I could swap the switches (driver/passenger) to see if the switch was the fault? If this fails what is involved to allow the seat to be slid back? Are there some bolts I can remove to allow the seat to be persuaded backwards until a can fix properly? Today I unplugged all the connections I could find under the seat and then put them back in the hope that there was just a dirty (or should I say birty?) connection somewhere, but made no difference.
Many thanks in advance,
Mike.

The switch should be the same for either side.

Thanks Mike....I'll go and try it now. This will be a nice repair if this turns out to be the fault. At least it will eliminate the switch.
Cheers,
Mike.

I had problems with the switch on mine, after it went swimming, it would only move one way.
Took the switch off, moved wires about and squirted it with cleaner - got it working again.

Thanks.
I swapped switches and the seat worked. I cleaned all the pins of the passenger switch and they were shining like gold, put it back on and it wouldn't work! Took the switch apart and everything was as clean as a whistle with all the contacts having a clean action, all I could do was clean all the contact points. I tried to check the switches with a multimeter but the switch seems to be multiplexed....gawd knows what's supposed to be connected to what pin, it's like a 3D maze in there!
Anyway, I've adjusted the seat to where I wanted it with the driver's side switch in place and then I've disconnected the power plug on the passenger seat until I get hold of another switch.
Thanks for your help,
Mike.
