Title: Probably the millionth TJ tyre question...

Apologies in advance folks but I need to make sure I get this right...

My stock TJ will soon be lifted 2" thanks to the RE Budget Boost (new shocks, spacers and bump stops) from Quadratec.

I plan to keep the existing wheels (5 spoke Jeep alloys, 15" I believe).

So I'm after the largest all-purpose tyre I can fit, with the proviso that it won't rub even when the sway bar is disconnected.  White sidewall writing is a must! :)

Having read up on this it appears I could go to 31" (or maybe 32"?), but it's the rest of the tyre label that I don't understand.

If it matters, I have 1/2" axle spacers installed.

What should I buy, and can anyone recommend a good UK dealer?

*EDIT* I may have just answered my own question - I reckon 31x11x15 in American money, roughly 275x75x15 ?

1)more use on road or off road?
2)what sort of moooolar have you to spend?

More on road unfortunately, but something that'll give me reasonable traction on mud/grass.
Moneywise up to £400 for 5.  
Hurrywise some time within the next couple of months.

I've taken a liking to the "stage 1" build on Quadratec's website where they use some 31x10.5x15 tyres that look just fine.  Unfortunately I guess the cost of shipping tyres from the US would be prohibitive.

i have a set of 5 general grabber AT2 31x1050x15's in the garage doing nothing if your interested.

Loads of tread on them and the spare has never seen tarmac/mud.

Had them on the wifes TJ before we went for muds, all we had to do was adjust the steering stops and that was when we was stock,  no lift.

£200 but you have to collect

you will then have another £200 to spend on the truck, more goodies

Definitely interested, though it will be a month or two.  I'll PM you nearer the time; collection won't be a problem as I'm down that neck of the woods every couple of weeks with work.

Of course I'll understand if they're sold before.

sourcing the tyres in the uk is not an issue and there are a few makes that are very competatively priced. kumho muds kl71 can be bought for under £70 each. or you could go for brand names like BFG and pay way over the odds for each tyre and blow £400 very quickly. i would have thought a body lift would have been the easies and potentially the quickest lift to have.

Cheers Dave, I'm thinking of a 1" body lift on top of the 2" suspension lift as a little "summer project" :)

To be honest I'm looking forward to doing some work on the Jeep.  My last hobby was RC racing which meant I spent all day in a garage working on fifth scale cars.  Now I fancy the real stuff!

if you want a good all round tyre try lewis 4x4 (landrover people) insa turbo mountains, excellent tyre, hard wearing, cheap  and free delivery as well

Cheers folks, going to take MOCAJ's (sorry mate, don't know your name!) offer and get his surplus Grabbers.  The savings will largely pay for my lift, good times :)
