:)
 can anyone hepl just bought a 2002 jeep cherokee 3.7 petrol  i love it .....
 anyway first time i used her for work today ,put fuel in (super unleaded) and about 5 mins driving management light has come on and wont go off !
 checked handbook and it says that if poor fuel or fuel cap not on properly (checked that)
i have a warranty with dealer i bought off  but does anyone have ideas my other half thinks its the fuel i put in ??

Hi an intro would be nice. tell us about you. as for advice, have the live off the battery for five mins and pop it back on. if the light comes back on then you might need to look further in to it. 8)

Why are you wasting money on super unleaded? it's designed to run on the cheap stuff. Don't disconnect the battery, you'll lose the diagnostic information about the potential fault. If it's in warranty, get back to the dealer and get them to scan the computer for faults.

ok go out to your truck with a pen and paper.  Put the ket in the ignition, turn the key forward to the starting position with out cranking over the motor, then turn it all the way back, then forward, then back, then forward.
The XJ will flash some coded numbers in the odometer, write these down and let me know what they are.  They are trouble codes for your rig.  If you can give me the numbers I can tell you whats wrong with your truck right away.

German XJ - It's a KJ (liberty) not an XJ I'm afraid, I doubt that works on it.

If it's under warranty then just get the Jeep dealer to scan for faults.

Oh yea british Cherokees are liberties.  So what are XJs? A hood is a bonnet, a fender is a bumper, a smoke is a fag, and blighty is England when your away from home.  I have learned we Americans do not speek English? :lol:
Well to the newbie I say try it anyway It should work. Fu^k the dealer.

By the way JamesH is that your rig in that picture thing by your posts?
If so how do you have your winch mounted?
Are you runnin a snorkel?

The XJ was 'replaced' by the KJ and called a Cherokee over here, despite being called a Liberty almost everywhere else.

The winch mount system I have is by Detours USA and if it's the type of thing you might be looking for then I'd fully recommend it, the quality is excellent, probably one of the best aftermarket parts I've ever bought. http://http://www.detoursusa.com

My next plan is to build a more sturdy bumper from this very solid mounting.

I don't have a snorkel, I don't really like mud and water (which is typical living in England!) and try to avoid it where possible. I have got a replacement air filter canister with ducting routed to take air from the rear of the engine bay. I plan to add a small vent to the bonnet to allow it to draw cooler air in than it gets at the moment. This setup gets rid of the problem when dropping into a wet hole with a Cherokee as the front few inches of the bonnet always  gets wet and this is where the stock intake is (as you know).

Sorry to (also) hijack this thread WelshPaula.  

FWIW, I would also take your KJ to the dealership and let them sort it out.  Keep a sample of the fuel to get it analysed later on (if necessary), and keep the receipt from the petrol station - that way you can sue 'em if it does turn out to be the fuel (for the cost of the fuel) and for any subsequent damage that is caused (like the Tesco fuel fiasco).  Not trying to raise panic here, just recommend that you take sensible precautions.

How is is running?  Are there any symptoms other than the light?

pertrol on it's own shouldn't cause the management light to come on. does the jeep still run smoothly and idle with no odd sounds

  have contacted the garage its going in tomorrow as its under warranty  to be checked .
 yes its running fine no probs !
 mike pavelin ... i will remember that tip thinking of converting it this year to gas anyway ,anyone any ideas at the cost and is it worth it ?

I used to enjoy it a bit more than now but I'd much prefer to drive rocks, stony slopes and obstacles at places like Seven Sisters at crawl speed than drive foot-to-the-floor into a mud pit.

welshpaula - I run my XJ on LPG with a sequential injection system (OMVL) and would thoroughly recommend it for fuel economy purposes. I don't know where a tank would go on a newer cherokee but I would advise you to keep the original petrol tank if at all possible. I have mine replaced by gas tank and smaller petrol tank and the range of an original petrol tank would be nice when running out of LPG in mid-Wales on a Sunday! Price-wise I would guess at aroung £2k for a good install and modern system. I calculated that mine took around 15k miles to pay for itself so that's worth bearing in mind if you don't do a lot of miles.

 already looked into lpg conversion (we know of alocal company that does it ,insurance approved) ) will keep petrol tank and have 90 litre gas tank in boot (cant go underneath) cost £1300 +vat .
 considering i get paid 53p a mile with  my job i should be ok when gassed ,lots of lpg outlets nearby too  so cant wait

I have a Points Of Interest overlay on my TomTom Sat-Nav that lists nearly all the LPG stations around the country. Without it filling can be a bit of a nightmare when you don't know the area.
