Title: new cherokee sport
Post by: silly lily on January 07, 2008, 08:40:53 PM
Hi again!
Was going to buy the old cherokee but not anymore: sat in one today and I don't fit (am very tall). But the current cherokee is ok!
Questions: is it as good as the old one?
What sort of mpg should I expect from the 2.8L engine on the Sport?
Noticed, side by side, that the Sport C is higher than the other, 3.7L. Good for off-road!
Also, if I put the seats down, would I be able to fit a couple of mountain bikes in, wheels off if need be?
If any of you has the 2.8 Sport version, would be very grateful for your views. Many thanks.

i had a 2.5 limited, nice on road but off road, very limited

you can do lots more with the old cherokee and there's loads around for choice, parts, upgrades etc

forgot to sat the 2.5CRD i had was replaced by the 2.8CRD, i used to get around 28 mpg from mine and the 2.8 was not much better. You will get around 22 from the 3.7 petrol if you're careful. Still advise an XJ ( old Cherokee)

you will have to spend a fair bit more on the wj to get it ready for more serious off roading. the xj would work out cheaper but if it is small for you to drive it won t be comfortable. if you dont need the luggage or child space why not look at a tj as tall folk can fit in them easily.

Lily, exactly how tall are you?

I'm 6'6" and 19stone and i fitted in to my xj perfectly.

granted there wasn't tons of head room but i didn't have to crouch...

I only ever met a woman my size once and she had an adams apple...

I have a 2.5 CRD, averages 27mpg. The 2002-2003 models were an inch or so taller than 2004 onwards.

Hi! I'm as tall as you! not head room is the problem, but leg room... mine are quite long and no, I did NOT sit comfortably in there at all. It's a no-no, simply! A grand cherokee of same age, though, that was very nice!

Yeah... I do need the luggage and child space, though. As much as possible, actually, because one od this car's function is as transport for mountain bikes, you see. I'll look at the GC also, a 99 would be great.

the seats on the xj are electric and go forwards as well as backwards and the go up and down as well, amazing. they do until they stop working that is.

you must be some serious leggy gal

i've got a 38" inside leg and there was tons of leg room for me. its actually one of the comfiest driving positions i've ever had. I could fit my legs under the steering wheel and everything...
lol

its quite a common fault i believe...

i'm still in awe of two things :!:
firstly that you are so tall and secondly that you couldn't fit in an xj...

still everybody's different and if you reckon you don't fit comfortably to drive an xj, then fairplay to you...
let us know who you do fit into though so i can keep them on my short list for future consideration.   :D

If the seats are the electric kind and work then put in the lowest and furthest back position I'm sure you could fit but comfort is a subjective thing and it's up to you to decide.

The only thing that really shocks me is that you felt the newer cherokee was roomy, I drove one at a Jeep Trial and it reminded me of my old Vauxhall Astra inside, small and with a dodgy plastic dashboard

Unless that Jeep has its seat broken and wouldn't go further back than it did, then, no I didn't fit my legs properly at all. That's how it was on that vehicle. The owner was there with me and said that no, didn't look a comfy fit at all. The Grand C though was excellent! If I could find a low mileage Orvis, LPG converted, I'd buy it.
Also, now gave up this idea of the new C Sport.
