I just busted two of my Torx bits pulling the screen hinges on one of my CJ's.
The T40 stub bit and one end of the T40 "L" have shattered, the other end of the "L" is just about still there, just.
Previously, they have just torn the "spline" out of rusted in screws and I've had to go for the drill.
I assumed I had quality tools but cheap nasty fasteners on the Jeep.
But the "screws" on this Jeep are made of sterner stuff and are rock hard.
Have I got crap bits or will expensive ones do just the same.
How the hell do I shift the remaining screws?

Try applying a little heat from a soldering ( ronson type ) torch also, it has worked for all of the stubborn little buggers I have had the pleasure of dealing with

i bought the halfords security torx style allen keys they are good and hard but i have still bust one. dont use a security type for a stubborn normal torx as they will break/shear.
dont buy them from the local pound shop LOL

For years and years I been using cheap crap tools from Halfords, or the local Auto Acessories store. They do more harm than good. They wreck your fasteners. Go spend a bit of money and get some Snap-On or Mac Tools tools. Either new or off ebay. I got a Snap-On 8 peice fold up soft grip Torx set brand new off the van for about 14 quid, lifetime guarantee, absolutly superb, I broke both my previous chinese crap Torx sets, first time I used 'em. Same with the wrenches and socket sets, the cheap shit rounds off the nuts as soon as you apply torque, the Flank Drive Plus sets are awesome. The Snap-On stuff really is the best and worth every penny. Also when you want to sell 'em, you can get your money back cause of their high re-sale value.
My 2c worth anyway.
