Title: Ignition Fault - HELP HELP
Post by: Taranis on January 18, 2008, 12:31:23 AM
Hi everyone

Just as I have become hooked on the excellent performance and off road ability of my near perfect Turbo Diesel Cherokee 1999,

THE IGNITION HAS BROKEN,

the key can slot in and out freely and although its been like this since i bought it it has always started perfectly 1st time.

Anybody got any suggestions on where to locate a new ignition or second hand one for this model, I would love to be able to build the lock to match the existing key but will take what I can get.

Are there any other common faults relating to the Ignition barrel on the cherokee    1999 ? with any easier fixes??

I can also add the plastic thing on the outside of the ignition that sort of goes around the key on the older models I have seen has not been there since before I bought it.

Any suggestions or ideas??

Many thanks

Cheers Andy

the key can be taken out when ignition is in any position, running even, and a coin or a screwdriver will turn the barrel  no i didn't nick it

They're about £40 + labour from a Jeep dealership. They will make it to match the key.

Thanks..

Got a new ignition barrel which sorted the key problem for £60 trade inc vat from main dlr, so thats sorted,

the non starting problem turned out to be realy simple.  The inhibitor switch on the clutch was knackered, I have by passed it for now and am awaiting a new switch.

ALL GOOD -  :)
