Title: Fitting a towbar to a ZJ......Electrics pic uploaded

Hi all,

Got hold of a towbar, waiting for it to be delivered. Can someone advise me what bolts/nuts I need to fit it.... or are there nuts already welded to the chassis and I just need the bolts?

Are there any pitfalls I should be wary of? as i'm getting secondhand I have no installation instructions.

Appriciate any heads up.

Thats a good point. Also where is the best point (or indeed is there a dedicated point) for the electrics loom to go into the vehicle.

the bolts, should be the same ones, that hold on the bumper, I think, I'll have a looksee at mine later :D

there is a grommet on the nearside, again I'll have a look tommorow :D

ok, i've had a look behind the pasenger rear light and the picture below is whats there.

Anything here look like the 'tow package'?????

Would be nice to just plug something in rather than have to install something.

in that pic of the towbar, is that a ten pin socket on the end of that wire,but only seven pins used?

don't know. i'm waiting for it to turn up....if it is... is that a factory plug to plug into the 'tow package'?

You're looking at the lamp outage module (works with the VIC to tell you when a tail lamp bulb is gone)
The factory actually fitted a tow package, there should be a socket behind the rear bumper. The bad news is it is configured for american lighting and no good to us. The genuine Mopar wiring kit for the UK Had all the bits to rewire the outage module and tow package to make it work with a 7 pin tow socket.
Aftermarket towbars are usually just wired into the back of the tail lights and work fine.

cheers mike......guess i'll have to get a bulb outage compatible wiring kit and a circuit diagram so i know what wires to splice into.

on mine, i just scotchlocked the wires works fine :roll: was two years ago :shock:

Just go to Halfords, you'll get a wiring kit and instructions on how to splice into the tail lights for about £15

For those how may have been in the same position as me I now have the witter tow bar installation guide which details bolts etc as well.

If anyone needs it let me know and i'll email it to you.

Just got to figure out the wiring.
