HI can any one enlighten me what causes end float on a 4lt limited slip rear end or is it suppost to have a bit of float when wheels are off the ground ?

There is usually up to 3mm of float due to the way they are held in.

yup they are retained by a large c clip expect 2 3 mm of end float and no lift at the wheel

thanks for your replies is there anything that can be done if there is more than 3 to 4mm of float ?

you could replace the c clips first and see how it is after that.
