Title: Rear oil seal catastrophe
Post by: tankdoctor on February 16, 2008, 04:42:03 PM
:-x Dropped the rear bearing housing and guess what?said shit to a blanket holding the bottom half of the seal in place.I finally sacked it for the day after another 2 hours trying to get the upper half out.
Why cant people use silicone?Tigerseal is great for sticking body panels on ,but an oil seal(i give up).
What should have been a 2-3 hour job may end up with the crank out to prise the little bleeder out!!
Look like the flush mount LED's will have to go on hold, mind you i could always just glue 'em on to the tub!!

Have you slackened off the remaining crank shaft carriers aswell as removing the rearmost half?  If not you'll never get the thing out 'cos the crank is exerting upwards pressure on it.  Just back them all off one or two turns each, then knock the seal upper half round with a parallel punch until enough of it shows that you can grab it with some moleys.

Maybe you'll get lucky and discover it's only the bottom half that's held in with tiger shit...........
