Title: xj warning light ?
Post by: cully on March 26, 2008, 06:02:50 PM
Hi guys , I have a 96 4ltr cherokee xj with no handbook. On the right hand side of the dash where ther are 5 small horizontal "screens" on the right hand side of the middle screen a small watery type symbol flashes up but only occasionally, I have looked for any water leaks but can see nothing. Can anyone  enlighten me ? Also is there anyone with a spare handbook or where could I get one . Cheers guys

Perhaps a little more explaination on the problem. The washer bottle has 3 sets of wires going to it, two for the motors, and a third set for a float switch to warn of low water level. The flashing you see is when the float switch is triggered going up and down hills/bumps. The bottle is under the nearside wing, and very long, so it will do that for a relatively long time as the level will only drop slowly through use of the washer jets.

Handbooks are unfortunately like rocking horse shit. However, as I'm incredibly nice, I'll dig mine out and we'll have a think about scanning it in - this question pops up quite often, so could be of use to many people.

When I had Tank's XJ It came without a handbook. They were going for silly money on Ebay, so I imported one from the states. Granted, it's for LHD american vehicles, but it did the job. If I can dig it out I'll put it up for sale. I also have a Haynes manual.

Can I just add to this thread? Cully there is no such thing as a stupid question, if you don’t have the answer to your problem then you don’t have the answer and that is it, there is nothing stupid about that. This is a place were you can ask anything you like, so next time you have a problem please do not consider it to be stupid. 8-)

Thanks guys ,  problem solved -next bit is to get some new rear springs to raise the back up -- diesel ones from lighthouse as suggested. I don,t intend to be touchy , I'm just not having a good time of anything at the minute & any slight dig seems like a major criticism .Never mind -- shit happens
