Title: Water pump gasket compound.
Post by: johnnythefridge on March 27, 2008, 01:18:08 PM
Hi all, just rebuilding an old ford escot TDI. Because the water pump is behind all the timing belts and runs on the back of the valve timing belts, I've pulled it out and I'm replacing it with a new one. I've always used Hylomar blue in the past. Mainly cause it's what I grew up with. But I just wandered. Does anyone have any reccomendations for gasket compunds ? To be honest they Hylomar blue has never let me down, even on gaskets made from breakfast cereal boxes (Frosties usually) but then since I've been using it for a long time now, I wondered it any progress had been made that I might be missing out on ......

Regards,

Johnny the Fridge.

Hermetite Red (or equivalent red) compound is what I used.

Hmmm

Problem is because your workin on a Ford couldnt say if yer supposed to use a sealer or not, you could try a Ford forum!!! perhaps JEEP may be a little off the mark :-s

used to be  a Hylomar blue (aero grade) man myself until I started using Loctite Blue Maxx 587

dont know if it's available in the UK though, or it may be called something else

have used it on lots of jobs including sealing my diff housings and doing a water pump the other day

Thanks for the comments, Hylomar it is then. Dont fret those that worried about the o rings, its not an O ring kinda pump .. paper gasket supplied with the new pump and all that.
