As the title queries, should the heater controls on a mk1 xj, (with air con) be illuminated, if so how do you get at the bulbs please??
-
Yes.
You'll be needing to take the fascia off the dash to replace them. Would seem unlucky for them all to go at the same time. Fuse or relay maybe?

Or the dimmer as I found out on mine located by turning the headlight switch, which also when clicks turns on the interior lights

Well sorted oh demonic one......
-
Yep, thats probably the most rational explanation!

The interior lights on got me when I first got it

alright thats what the switch is meant to do then why
when i have my dash lights dimmed right down so i can't see the clocks, then the indicators and all lights work. (outside of vehicle)
but when i turn the brightness up so i can see the clocks, then my indicators come on perminant an the brake lights flash instaed???
i think dodge earth but can't be bothered to investigate

Electrics by Stevie Wonder??
Actually that little headlight switch is a nasty piece of shit and is always going wrong. Your symptoms sound bizarre, but not that surprising with those bloody switches.

i do have a spare switch but it was a nightmare to remove from the donor vehicle so ive avoided fitting it in mine
-
thanks
must be the bulbs as everything else is illuminated
