We all know that Xj,s have diff problems with em whining, does anyone know if I bought an Xj with a whining rear axle(diff) and put either an air locker(arb) or a lockrite (mechanical locker)in the rear axle would this cure the problem with the whining diff. When you put an locker in does this replace the whole diff?or just components?the reason im asking is that to buy a locker is cheaper than to have a diff rebuilt(or so im told)

No.
If it's whining it's because the ring and pinion gear teeth are either worn or misaligned due to bearing wear or incorrect installation.
A replacement diff comes without gears and has to be installed and set up properly or the problem will be worse.
