My blower has stopped working on settings 1 and 2 but blows as normal on 3 and 4.
Any ideas?
-
duff switch i recon mate. maybe dr mike can shed some light.
-
IIRC setting number 4 is a direct voltage from the battery so the blower runs at full speed the other settings are restricted by the rheostat type switch. if the switch fails then the lower speeds fail
-
If it is the resistor pack there is a fix that costs about a £1.

I had to do mine - got the thermal fuse, opened it up and it was completely rusted through - Then bought a new one
-
Cheers guys. Dave i think you might have hit the nail on the napper.

Anyone know where I can locate the rheostat switch or equivelent on a Mk2 XJ? Or is there a way I can get my electric fan running independently? Sitting in traffic in hot weather might be a problem now.

Right I`ve got the bastard after taking my glovebox off and various other stuff. Its corroded to bits. Is a resistor the answer or another whole thingymabobby?
Whats the odds this is my problem , its corroded silly.

Right, just soldered the corroded bits up. It worked for like, 2 minutes before some smoke and...no blower. I`ll buy a new one. Looks like stealership are going to poke my eyes out. :-(

Give L;ighthouse a ring and explain the problem may be able to sort out the parts. 01953-681237.

Ok Ted I`ll give it a go.

Holy thread reserection Batman.................
The same's happened on my facelift has anybody successfully completed this or should I make do with hyper blow or nowt???????????

I had this proplem on my XJ. The resistor pack in the fan has a thermal fuse. When this blows you only get two fan positions: off and full power. Yes you can replace the thermal fuse as per this link:
http://www.geocities.com/chmwatson/FAQs ... k_fix.html (http://www.geocities.com/chmwatson/FAQs/Jeep/HVAC-fuselink_fix.html)
but I opted to replace the blower resister pack. I picked one up from my dealership couple of weeks ago. The part number is DK04885456AB, retails at £24.98 inc VAT. Very easy to fit, the fan is located in the dash above the passenger footwell, remove the three screws holding the plastic cover, remove the power supply to the resistor pack, them remove the two screws and remove. Mine was so rusty it had to go.

Ta. Twenty five quids not the end of the world-mind you feels like this week.
-
further to the blower problem-still not resolved
-
Fix the resistor pack and get the fan working properly
-
Flush out the heater matrix
-
Ah well, fixing the resistor pack would undoubtelly help but I've owned plenty 10yr old cars that'll run all day with blower on max and stay plenty hot.
I'm going with the flush, the fact it's cheap has nowt to do with it.
-
top tip, flush through with DIET coke, (must be diet) cleans the ally matrix up inside

Understand where you're comin' from with the Coke-what's the best way to proceed if don't mind me asking????
-
I took the 2 hoses off at the front of the engine that run along the head, drained as much water as i could out then filled with coke and left for an hour (keeping the hoses higher than the matrix) then flush out with a hose pipe and reconnect the hoses
-
Nice one. That sounds like a plan.
I'll give it a go over the weekend.
Here's hoping it works, looks like Jack Frost is about at the weekend
-
thermal fuse is cheap fom maplin. heater matrix mostly blocked. I have had good results when flushing the matrix with a diesel heated pressure washer for 20 mins. I have not tried the diet coke but I think it should be good at de-scaling the matrix if it don't eat a hole in it.

Capt. Crud had indeed paid a visit and liked it so much he decided to take up residence in the matrix.
One backflush later, warm as toast
