i know some of the xj boys chuck the rear sway bar over the hedge
wot about the ZJ, its a 97 we are lifting 2"
-
keep it.
-
arnt zjs on coils if so defo keep it
-
ZG's are coils...which lift are you going for MOCAJ?
-
tis needed
-
thanks fellas :-D
-
if you took it off you would shit yaself for sure tis deffo needed spose the higher you lift you would need longer or adjustable ones
-
If you're talking about rear trackbar then it is required. On a 2" lift the body will pull slightly to the RHS but won't cause any rubbing/binding issues and isn't too noticeable. I had to put on an adjustable one when I went to 4.5".
If its the anti-roll bar. You could ditch it. I kept it on the 2" lift so restricted articulation. Took mine off when I went higher cos I didn't buy extended links and I haven't noticed too much difference. I suppose if you drive it hard into corners you might want to keep it on but I reckon take it off, see the difference on/off-road; if you don't like it you can always stick it back on

I might have this completely wrong... :-D

If you were replacing springs with stiffer ones and similar with shocks then you could possibly ditch it. Given the weight of a ZJ and the coils all round I'd keep the bar with what you have planned.
The few coil-converted XJs out there normally find the rear a bit unstable without some kind of anti-roll bar. I know one guy in the US fabricated the Currie Antirock system into the rear of his XJ for a compromise between stability and flex.

Some of you may have seen this before, but a friend of mine runs a well sorted 80 series Landcruiser which has coils all round on live axles and has both front and rear anti-roll bars removed. It looks very tippy when it’s pushed hard into corner at speed, but I’m not aware he has ever lost it! I think he has just had to adjust his driving style, but I have heard a front wheel has been lifted on the odd occasion whilst cornering too hard!
Have a look here and follow some of the links on the page to give you some more detail.
